Summer Greens Aerification

As you may have noticed we have aerified our greens. The main reason we do this is to allow an air exchange. At this point in the year we have rolled greens several times and topdressed the greens weekly, this has a tendency to "seal up" the surface, and when the surface becomes sealed the plant can choke a little and reduce turf thickness and quality. This small 1/4 inch tine opens the surface just enough to allow air, light, and water to penetrate the rootzone. Later in the summer when heat increases and thunder storms are frequent, this will allow the moisture to move through the soil and not cause any issues. It certainly seems as though we aerify just when the greens get good, but it is most definitely needed to ensure the best quality of greens through out the summer. We appreciate your patience.
